not sure why this bugs me but from videos the driver appears to be positioned left of center.

is this the case?

Yes it is offset. If it wasn't you wouldn't have equal balance right to left on the car.

Plus, it makes room for the Cool Suit system/Helmet blower on the right. There is more room inside than most racecars out there.
