2003, F-350, 4x4, with the 6.0l turbo diesel?
4 door crew cab, lariat trim with leather, loaded (or nearly so),

2 owners,
current owner has had for 2.5 years, and ~40k of the ~125k miles.
no problems reported.

asking $17k negotiable.
selling because they are downsizing their horse-related endeavors.

here's the fly in the ointment:
a buddy with an 2008 or 2009 F-250 King Ranch, and a handful of intake, exhaust, and tune mods.
(so i guess he knows what he is talking about), says :
Quote:
Avoid the 6.0L like it has Ebola virus! It went into 2003 through 2007 models. The 7.3L was before that. The 7.3 was a great engine. The 6.0 makes for a pretty good boat anchor. The 2008 - 2010 6.4L is the best so far.

current owner's wife, says that they researched it, and learned that if teh engine was gonna be a lemon, it would have declared itself before the ~80k mile mark, at which they purchased it.

so shouuld i keep considering this vehicle, or move on to something a year older, an 08 or newer, or a dodge?

thanks,
doc

I've heard nothing but bad things about 6.0l. A friend had an 05 or 06 Harley Davidson edition with a superchip ecu flash. it was wicked fast! He sold it before it even had 10k on it (not because of problems, he just never used it)

my brother owns an 01 f250 7.3l 2wd. great truck with almost 190k on it. i just drove it last week for the 1st time in years and was surprised on how well it drove. decent power too. I've heard great things about the 7.3l turbo inter-cooled engines. much more reliable than the 6.0 and more powerful than the older non-inter-cooled 7.3.

We have an 07.5 GMC Sierra 2500HD 2wd with a 6.6l duramax (365hp, 665 tq). I love it. power and torque is great, 6spd allison tranny is awesome and it gets decent gas mileage. its the 1st year of the stupid dpf (diesel particulate filter) and re-gen system. basically it is a huge filter to keep the exhaust clean and not blow black smoke. it uses fuel to clean it out once or twice per tank of fuel. it basically wastes a 1/4 tank of gas and ruins your gas mileage and robs a bit of power. 07 and older truck don't have it. they have a noticeable louder exhaust note.

id recommend buying a truck which you think looks and rides good and has all the features you want.

id go with an 06 and newer gmc/chevy or if your a ford freak id get one of the last 7.3's made.
