I am in hpde 2. I have run the stock pirelli p zero tires on 19" rims, 255/40/zr19. I am looking for better tire options at the same or below price of the pirelli. I am also interested in 275/35/18 tires as I guess thats what the race mustangs run. I don't think I am interested in the ps2 tires as I have read they are shot after 3 days of hpde and cost a fortune. There are lost of opinions on tires. I do NOT want to loose performance from the pirelli even if the tire is half the cost. If you have a mustang or other mid 3000lb car and have run the pirelli tire and found something better I want to hear from you. I run at mid ohio if it makes a difference. Thanks.

BFG R1. Will last forever while giving consistant lap experiences. Older versions will heat cycle to death before running out of rubber. I had a set that lasted a year. Ran tons of practice laps on the car. Have a membership at MSRH.

Those tires are extremely expensive for what you are getting. The dunlop star specs are $100 cheaper a tire for a 255/35/18. Those are pretty much the best tire going for one that has to go on the street and track.

HPDE2 - not time to run a NT01 or full slick tire. Learn to drive the car 11/10ths on street tires.

Set of 18in wheels will open up a lot more tire options for sure.

I have a 2011 S197 v6 Performance Package w/ 255/40R19s that I run in STX autocross.

PZeros where just OK as the OE tire. Nothing special. Went though mine after 15k. Heat soaked in AX duty pretty quickly.

I have been testing 255/40R19 Conti DW:

15k on them so far and dozen AX events and a few laps at Mid-Ohio and Grattan. Overall, nice all-around summer tire. Does well in AX, well on the street, well on the track. Best in any? No. But good all-around.

Hankook V12s and Sumitomo HTR ZIII -- both good all around tires at a great price point. Good grip as well. v12s take a good beating too.

Good info. I am probably going to replace my stock Pirellis with Conti DWs. I am on the cusp of DE2 and these Pirellis stick much better than my BFG KDWS's did on my 2008 Bullitt. I drive my car on the street much more than the track, so I probably won't bother with track wheels for a while. CMP is the only track that really tears up my tires. I'll see how AMP is next month.

Don't count out the Cooper Zeon RS3S. Ran them for 2 years before going to NT01's. Once warmed up, great tires.
